Luke 9:12-13 “And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place. But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people.”
Inadequacy.
That is how we feel when asked to do something for which we are either unprepared or ill-equipped. It is how the disciples felt when asked to provide for more than they could ever have made ready.
Yet, the lesson Jesus was teaching them and us is obedience and submission. For in doing so, we find that He is all we need. Jesus supplied all they needed and had much in abundance. Even after some time, He used this example twice to reveal where our real problem lies.
Matthew 16:8-11 “Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread? Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?”
Jesus reveals our lack of faith in believing that He will supply our every need. We often forget Hip promise.
Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Psalm 37:25 “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”
We often feel inadequate because we fail to realize just how connected we are to Him.
Through prayer, we have the opportunity and ability to come into the throne room of God and present our needs. That privilege was purchased at Calvary.
We have been given precious promises to ask and receive that which we need. Not just for us, but others as well. So often, I need wisdom that I know I do not possess. But, all I need do is ask.
James 1:5 “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
The meditation for me today is to realize that where I may think I lack, my God will supply – especially when it is promised by Him to do so.
Counseling can be especially difficult because of the situation and circumstances.
I look to the wisdom given Solomon when he first took the throne. Almost immediately, he was presented with a problem not many of us would want to face. Yet, the God-given wisdom he exhibited, proved to me that God could and will provide to show Himself real in every circumstance.
Take the time needed to meditate on the promises God has given us. Then, let us trust His Word to provide us with what we need in the time we need for those we try to help.
