Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

God resolved to create. All that He made was good. He said so.

He also knew that before the foundation of the world, man would sin. Adam’s choices would not always line up with the will of God. God knew that one day, man would need a Redeemer, a Savior.

In His grand and master plan, God Himself would provide the One who would come to pay the ultimate sacrifice for the punishment and penalty of sin.

In the grand scheme of things, God knew and had planned that Jesus would be born of a virgin, live a sinless life, be offered as a sacrifice on the cross, die, be buried, and rise again.

To think upon and meditate on the love God has for us is overwhelming.

John 3:16-18 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

Before the foundation of the world, God resolved to redeem man.

1 Peter 1:18-21 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.”

In this new year, many will resolve to live healthier, eat better, exercise more, save more money, love deeper, work harder, read more, study more, be faithful, and generally improve their life.

Some will have the character and persistence to make good on their resolutions. Many will not.

I have found those things I genuinely resolve to do, plan, and place myself accountable for, are completed. I often covenant with another man to be my Nathan, to call me out whenever needed.

In my plan to lose weight, it became a decision to live a more healthy life. Not just what I eat, but my exercise, my leisure, and sleep. When life is open-ended with choices unsettled, my flesh usually wins the battle. I have given in to pleasure and relaxation when work and tasks need to be accomplished.

Rick Warren had the idea right in that the saved child of God should live life on purpose. But that purpose is not one we often choose. It is in the acceptance of what has already been selected for us before the world’s foundation.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

I often quote this verse, but it has impacted my life to the place where I have infused its truth into all that I do.

If we are the purchased possession of God, I no longer have the control of the guidance and direction of my life. God purchased those rights when I got saved.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Therefore, to act contrary to God’s will for my life is in direct opposition (disobedience) to this vessel’s Owner.

If there is anything to resolve in this new year, it should be to find God’s will for our lives and do all that is in our power to do it. Simple in explanation, more difficult in application. Here is a simple step we often miss:

If I am the purchased possession of God, I need His help in all that I do. My failure to involve Him in every aspect of my life is setting the stage to fail.

Our pride tricks us into thinking we do not need God in more straightforward matters.

If there is one thing to resolve this year, may it be to pray for guidance in all matters, no matter how small or simple they may seem.

May we resolve to go to God first before we react, which often results in fleshly responses.

James 1:19-20 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.”

May we resolve to filter our responses.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

May we guard our minds and think about those things that would please the Owner.

Psalm 101:2-3 I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.”

I do know that what I resolve to do this year will need God’s help to accomplish. I have experienced enough failure in situations and circumstances that boiled down to my choice to exclude God in the decision-making process.

My prayer, dear reader, is that you will have the most blessed and Spirit-filled New Year. It will not just ‘happen.’ We must resolve to do our part and believe that God will do His. It is as simple as trusting His Word.

Happy New Year from Daily Manna!
