Ephesians 6:2-4 “Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”
I recall a time when my eight-year-old daughter asked me:
“Daddy, do you love the church more than me?”
Ouch!
You see, I had been so focused on working for God, I almost missed out on the one of the most significant roles and responsibilities I had been given.
Dads, we often get out of balance in this area. We get focused on our job, house, hobbies and never really refocus on what God has called us to do.
I am first and foremost called to be a child of God. That relationship affects all the others. I have found that I need a fresh awareness of God in my life every day to be able to see clearly, speak clearly, and act accordingly.
The second is my marriage. It is a picture of Christ and the church. In it, I am to act as Jesus would.
The third is my children. I am to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Nurture is to feed, nourish, educate, and train.
To admonish is the gently reprove and instruct in the duties.
This weekend, I will be heading into the north woods of Wisconsin with my son and grandson for a Father/Son Campout. We will live out of a tent and eat off a fire for three days and two nights.
This is an opportunity to fulfill my duties as a father and grandfather.
It also means that Daily Manna will not return until this Sunday.
Please feel free to check out past posts and like them, comment on them, and share the ones you want with others.
Husbands and Dads, let us take the lead to fulfill our duties and show the next generation what God expects of us.
