Luke 12:6-7 “Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.”
The enemy, the Christian’s enemy, seeks to cheapen, to make light of, to taint and dirty that which is good, right and holy. His ultimate goal is devalue, divide, and destroy all that God sets up as worthy, united and eternal.
I meet so many who are bowed down with the lies of the devil that they have gotten used to the voices of criticism; hurtful, hateful and demeaning words. Some that come at the mouths of others, but some who have taken up those lies as truth and speak those words to their own heart.
“Loser”
“Worthless”
“Piece of junk”
These become chains that grow increasingly heavy if not shattered by the truth of the Word of God, will quite literally suck the life out of a person. Those lies become what is referred to as strongholds – a belief system based upon a lie.
We believe many things. But if they are not founded and grounded in the Word of God, they can become strongholds.
Our enemy cannot possess us. The Holy Spirit who lives inside of us, cannot and will not share residence with thtat which is impure, unholy, and ungodly. But Satan can oppress us. So much so, that we become utterly and totally useless for the kingdom of God. If he can convince a child of God that they are not worthy of God’s attention, His love, His power, provision, and protection; despondency, despair, and depression set in.
Often, we are led astray because of what it is we are seeking. Recently, there was a lottery jackpot of $1.6B… more money than any of us would see in a number of lifetimes. Folks spent their savings on tickets for a one in 13M chance that their numbers would line up with the winning ones.
Consider this – God thought you and I worth more than all the world would have to offer that He sent His own Son; Jesus Christ, to be the sacrificial Lamb – offered up to pay for our sins. He became the propitiation – our substitute – on the cross of Calvary. It should have been us, but He took my place.
That cost; that price that was paid was done willingly, lovingly and offered to all as a free gift to pay for their sins. By taking that gift, I was made a child of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords – I became royalty – eternally!
The storehouses of Heaven are mine. I am promised that all my needs are and will be supplied.
Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
For many, it is because we do not know who we are in Christ that places us in the bondage, in the stronghold of the devil.
Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…”
What we don’t know CAN kill us.
But, even when we do know, we don’t apply that truth to the everyday attacks on our minds. God’s love and purpose for us goes so far beyond what my mind can comprehend. His plan is eternal – mine can’t see beyond the current crisis!
Psalms 61 is a beautiful psalm to memorize. It brings my mind to the place of shelter, trust and comfort. It recalibrates my perspective and sets my feet on the right path.
Psalms 61:1-8 “(To the chief Musician upon Neginah, A Psalm of David.) Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah. For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name. Thou wilt prolong the king’s life: and his years as many generations. He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him. So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.”
Take some time to read it through. Meditate on its truth. Allow your Heavenly Father to speak peace to your heart and calm the storms within and without.
He said He cares more for you than the sparrow. He sees it when it falls, he feeds it and clothes it. How much more will He care for you!
You are worthy!
